Stewart+Brown: Organic Pioneers

If I were to write a description of myself, fashionista would be a word that would slip in. I do enjoy fashion, though I find myself more on the Charolotte end of the spectrum, rather than the Carrie end, if you catch my drift. My style is classy, classic, and comfortable, with a hint of trendy.

That being said, I was quite enamored when I came across the Stewart+Brown website. The first thing that caught my eye were the amazing clothes! All of these beautiful pieces, so many, in fact, that I had a hard time choosing favorites. I clicked on over to the organic cotton clothing, and I eventually settled on this beautiful jersey dress in "pomegranate" (I love that they didn't call it "red", don't you?). It is fitted at the top, seamed into pleats that unfold as they go down, creating a soft, girly look and a dress with lots of movement (I'll admit it, I twirled in it. C'mon, don't act like you haven't done it.) I was a little nervous, just ordering by the size chart online, but when I received it, it fit perfectly. Not to mention that it was the most comfortable thing I've ever worn. Seriously, I didn't want to take it off. The organic cotton is so soft that I insisted that hubby "feel" the dress. Even he was impressed, and that is hard to do.

I also chose this beautiful collar scoop shell top. It is made from 100% organic cotton, and has the most intricate embroidery detail and also has a silk screen detail on the mock sleeves that I love. It has a great fit, and is long enough for me -- which is a rarity on my 5'8" frame -- it seems like every top I that like is too short.

Lastly, I was fortunate enough to try out two of their fabulous totes. The Clover Purse tote in Pomegranate (when I unwrapped it I promptly dumped my stuff out of my other bag and placed it all in this one -- it's gorgeous) has beautiful detailing on the outside inspired by iron work that one of the owners/founders of Stewart Brown saw on a trip to Portugal. It is made from a surplus hemp blend and lined with organic cotton.

The other bag that I'm currently lovin' on is this Green Heart Tote that I fully intend to use to tote my groceries in. It is made from 100% organic surplus cotton, so you can go green by using your tote and know that even your tote bag is helping!

Head on over to Stewart+Brown and check out all of their great products -- you can shop til you drop and help the earth at the same time!

Natural Natursutten

Ok, so you already know about my guilt over continuing to use products that contain BPA so last weekend I ordered some of the world's only all-natural pacifiers by "Natursutten". They came in today and I love them! More importantly, Little AG loves them, and I have effectively tossed all of her other pacifiers! You do have to replace these pacifiers every 4 to 5 weeks, and you can test to see if it should be replaced by squeezing the nipple together -- if it sticks, then it's time to replace it. These eco-friendly pacifiers are made of 100% natural rubber that comes from a tropical Amazonian tree that produces recyclable rubber. These pacifiers are so soft -- much smoother and softer than her previous paci's (or as hubby calls them, "fires", because he just has to be difficult).

The other feature that I love is that the Natursutten pacifiers are all one piece, no crevices or cracks that can accumulate dirt or germs. They have no allergy causing substances, and won't even bother those babies with a latex allergy. They have no chemical softeners, parabens, PVC, or phthalates. Also, the Natursutten pacifiers won't leave marks on your baby's face.

They come in a round and orthodontic nipple, and you can buy these awesome Natursutten Pacifiers for $6 each at Freckle Face Boutique. The owner of Freckle Face, Deanna, tells me they are flying off the shelves, so if they are out, be patient, more will come in soon!

Kate Quinn's Organic Terry Towels

In our house, we unfortunately go through a lot of paper towels. We use them to clean everything. So, in my effort to be more "green" I found these organic wash cloths from Kate Quinn Organics. These come in a pack of 6 and are made of a medium weight terry cloth. I know they would be great for the bathtub, but also for cleaning up after meals. They come in Violet, Syke Blue, Vanilla, or Pomegranate Red. Those colors sound good enough to eat! You can buy a pack of 6 here, in your choice of color, for $8. Wouldn't these make the perfect finishing touch for a baby gift?

Ruffin' It

Ok, so I cannot resist this hilarious t-shirt from Hatley Nature! It has a picture of a dog camping and says "Ruffin' it". I honestly laughed out loud when I saw it and promptly came here to blog about it! Oh, aren't you glad I have a sense of humor?

Wanna hear the really cool part?

(I knew you did)

It's completely organic cotton.

Equally as cool?

It's ON SALE, and oh, how I love a sale! Grab one, heck, grab a couple for $9.99 each at Hatley Nature, for the men in your life. (Or, for yourself, if you, uh, happen to be a man.)

Sweet Swaddle

Don't these swaddle blankets look incredibly soft? When Little AG was brand-new, hubby mastered the art of swaddling her when she was fussy, and I became an instant fan of both him and swaddling. (Well, I liked him ok before, so I guess it was the swaddling that I grew fond of, though I was grateful to him for stopping the crying)

These swaddling blankets from Doux Pomme ("Sweet Apple" en français) come in a bundle of two, with all of the bundles including a soft cream-colored blanket, but allowing you to choose the other color from "blush, ice blue, and sage". They are made from 100% Egyptian Organic Cotton, so I don't have to tell you what a good thing that is.

Pick up a set of two for $25.50 at Doux Pomme's website.

Babyganics Clean

Oooh, so I'm always on the lookout for a safer way to clean my house (the little cleaning that I actually do, that is) that doesn't involve vinegar -- because I just can't bring myself to deal with the scent. It's making my eyes water and my nose scrunch right now just thinking about it. So, when I ran across these products from Babyganics (what a cute name, right?) I almost danced a little jig.

Well, except I have no idea how it is that one dances a jig. But, I digress.

You can buy this "super" kit of cleaning products that features, in a nutshell: nothing toxic, no dyes, chemical free, and no animal testing (yay!). In that kit you will receive two 32 oz. bottles of "all-purpose cleaner", two 32 oz. bottles of "glass cleaner", two 32 oz. "tub and tile" cleaners, and one 16 oz. "concentrate floor cleaner". Bonus: you can choose if you'd like it delivered non-scented or in Lavender.

Everything they make is certified non-toxic by a toxicologist, and that covers all means of toxic -- skin, eyes, ingestion, and inhalation. You can buy the whole kit for $42 (that includes shipping!) by visiting Go Natural Baby.

Lucky Bubble (Skirt)

I adore these 100% organic cotton skirts from Lucky for Baby! I think bubble skirts are so sweet on little girls (whereas I just look like a cupcake if I try to wear one) and I miss the one and only "bubble" dress that little AG ever had, which she has now outgrown. The fact that this one is organic totally sweetens the deal for me, and makes me feel better about the $39 price tag. I totally couldn't decide if I liked the skirt in "pool" (blue for us non-artsy types) or "plum" (I think it's more like pink, but whaddaeyeno?) so I posted both pictures! If you love these like I do, consider picking one up for the princess in your life at Lucky for Baby.

Bamboo Baby

I love this sweet little organic sleeveless dress from Pure and Honest Kids. The dress is 70% bamboo and 30% cotton so it will be soft and gentle against baby's skin. Bamboo feels like a cross between silk and cashmere and has a beautiful soft, natural sheen to it. The dress comes in a soft pink and you can choose sizes newborn through 9 months. This would be a perfect and eco-friendly baby shower gift! The best part is that it's rather inexpensive, as far as organic clothing goes -- only $20 at Pure and Honest Kids.

Organic Kid

I love these "Organic Kid" infant and toddler T's from Farmer Kids. They are made from 100% organic cotton and are so so so soft! Hubby was in NYC back in December when Farmer Kids was participating in a Christmas Market in Union Square, and he brought little AG back one of their "Organic Kid" bibs. She and I both love it! Unfortunately, they don't sell the bibs online, but you can grab one of these adorable T's for $30 online, or choose from many other products. Check out their awesome line of products at www.farmerkids.com.

PS -- For my New York City readers, go visit Farmer Kids at the Go Green Expo on April 26 and April 27 at the New York Hilton!

Sweetest Soap

I ordered some of these fabulous baby products for little A.G. about 8 months ago and I love, love, love them! I first read about them when I was doing a little research on Cosmetic Database about the body wash and shampoo that I was using on her at the time (to my horror -- was rated a 6 out of 10 as a hazard to little ones) and decided to try these products instead. They are completely organic and smell AMAZING. The Angel Baby Lotion makes her skin so soft and smells like a dreamsicle ice cream cone. I highly recommend the Angel Baby Shampoo and Body Wash ($12.95 for 5.3 oz) which has a foam pump that I love, and it smells great too. I've also tried the Angel Baby Bottom Balm and it works miracles on little A.G.'s sensitive skin.

Check out all of the Earth Mama Angel Baby products here. Best of all, none of their products are rated higher than a 1 out of 10 by the Cosmetic Database. Check out their company profile here.

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to Chic Shopper Chick! I created this blog to share really cool, useful, and usually reasonably priced items and gifts with other moms out there! I love to shop online and I get ridiculously excited when I stumble upon something really awesome. I get asked a lot where I find things, so I figure if other moms are interested in it, you may be too!

Now for the most exciting part: my inaugural pick!

I just can't resist this sweet little Kimono Dress by Kate Quinn Organics. Since it's cotton, it's cool enough for the hot Louisiana weather, but it would also be perfect layered over a pair of pants in cooler weather. The best part is that it's completely organic, so you can shop guilt-free! (At least that's what I keep trying to tell hubby!)

Sizes 0-3 months all the way through a 6Y, $34 at www.katequinnorganics.com.
