Raising The Bar

I recently had the opportunity to watch the first three episodes of the new series, Raising the Bar, set to premiere September 1st (Labor Day) at 10/9 Central on TNT. Raising the Bar is a show about a bunch of lawyers -- some who work for the DA, some who work as Public Defenders -- who all went to law school together. The premise of the show is they work with or against each other during the day, but all get together and hang out (albeit with a little shop talk) at night.

I've gotta say that overall, I really enjoyed it. My favorite part about this show is that instead of focusing on the job of the District Attorney's office, it puts more focus on the public defender. Its really a neat perspective, since almost everything is shown from the other side. Mark Paul Gosselaar (think Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell) is one of the main characters and I really enjoyed watching him play the role of a hot headed, passionate guy who really feels for the people he is defending. He isn't a lawyer who is just doing his job -- you can tell his heart is wrapped up in each case. I also adore the crazy judge -- played by Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle) -- she was the character that I loved to hate.

This show is fun. It has drama, romance, surprises, and good story lines. It is probably not what most would call a grand slam hit show, but I am likely to continue watching. Hubby and I used to love the show "Close to Home" until it got canceled in it's third season, and I have a feeling we will grow addicted to this show as well. I already have my DVR set to pick up all of the episodes. If you like legal dramas, then give this show a chance come September 1st, I think you'll enjoy it.

However, September 1st ALSO brings the first episode of season 2 of Gossip Girl as well, so don't forget to watch. And if you don't already watch, all I can say is go rent the first season and catch up, because this season should be gooooooood. Don't worry, they come on at different times, so you'll be able to watch both.
